Why do we have Dark Eye Circles?

Filed under: Others — Vivienne Quek @ Oct 8th, 2008

I don’t like the dark eye circles under my eyes and they won’t go away despite having adequate sleep. According to Doctor Bob Koh, it is due to toxin build up in our body.

Since the good doctor is away in USA treating his patients, I googled for some quick answers and the following is what I found from Ray A. Rubio:

- Contrary to popular believe fatigue is not a cause of dark circles under the eyes.

- One of the most common causes is nasal congestion, because when the nose is congested, the veins drain from your eyes and become widened and darker.

- Eyelid swelling during sleep is another common cause. Gravity can cause fluids to build up in your lower eyelids.

- Dark circles can also be the result of chronic skin conditions like atopc eczema.
